This includes over a decade of experience as a machinist, operating manual and CNC lathes and machining centers. Providing 3D CAD & CAE services, production drawings, design, and test documentation to ECSS, NASA and ISO standards. Assistance in all project stages from concept through prototyping and all the way to commissioning. As a Lead designer on several aerospace projects, I optimized the project flow and introduced new Agile-inspired practices and technologies that reduced the delivery times and cut costs of the various project stages to sometimes more than 50 %.

Hardware engineer with more than 33 years of experience in digital design, FPGA-based systems, and high-speed electronics. My work has taken me from ultra-high-volume consumer products to specialized equipment for space, maritime, and medical applications. This breadth has given me both deep technical expertise and the ability to see connections across industries and technologies. As an independent consultant I support companies that need specialist knowledge, additional capacity, or a steady hand to move critical projects forward. I have led hardware design for space cameras, redesigned FPGA-based CPU boards for maritime engines, and uncovered issues in medical devices before they reached the market. In each case my contribution has been to bring structure, solve technical problems, and secure products that perform reliably in demanding environments. In recent years, my main scientific focus has been on Space Safety i.e. research, project development and other activities to identify, understand, analyze and mitigate threats originating from space against planet Earth, life, human civilization and infrastructure. These threats include space weather effects, asteroids and comets, man made space objects including debris and particle radiation. Presently I am working to establish a national center for Space Safety in Denmark based at DTU Space. The center will serve as the national advisory body for decision makers, relevant authorities and other relevant stakeholders. Another area of research is how to employ satellites and unmanned systems to establish an infrastructure in the Arctic providing both communication and situational awareness. Focus is on scalable solutions with unmanned systems in all domains (air, sea, and land) breaching the gap between space-based systems and manned systems. Finally, I do research in cosmology – specifically the Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation (CMBR). He is a very experienced space systems engineer and designer based on 30+ years of contributions to major national and European Space Agency (ESA) missions. These contributions included mission and systems design, digital satellite communication, electrical power subsystems, communication link simulations, satellite system simulator, orbital mechanics, various system studies and a survey for ESA of Danish telecommunications industry. Before engaging in space activities he served as a design engineer in Danish electronic industry being involved in the design of fiber-optical and RF test equipment and the design of a maritime Inmarsat communications terminal. He is an experienced lecturer within his professional fields ranging from “Space for Kids” exploratory event for pupils in 1st to 5th grade primary school to university level lecturing and supervision of M.Sc. projects. Teaching experience also includes lecturing on approx. 30 continuing education courses within the fields of digital communication, RF techniques and phase-locked loops. Dr. Hansen served for 7 years as a Danish delegate to the ESA Industrial Policy Committee (IPC), and a further 2 years as an adviser to the Danish IPC delegation. He has given numerous lectures to public and closed audiences on the utilisation of space, and has had numerous appearances on national TV, radio, newspapers and in printed media in relation to major space events.
